Animal Health, Welfare and Disease Control Enforcement

• Monitor farms for animal movement records.
• Administer licensing system for movement of animals
• Visit and inspect premises for animal welfare including slaughterhouses, livestock markets and farms.
• Carry out welfare checks on animal transport
• Prevent spread of animal diseases such as rabies, anthrax and BSE.

Food and Agriculture

• Carry out inspections of food premises.
• Monitor the labelling and composition of food (including genetically – modified foodstuffs.
• Take samples of food and agricultural feeding stuffs to check for ingredients.

Metrology (Weights and Measures)

• Regulate items sold by Weight/Measure.
• Check, test and certify weighing and measuring equipment.
• Carry out enforcement action on Overloaded Goods Vehicles.

Partnerships

• Develop partnerships with local businesses, The Health Council and other enforcement agencies.

Home Authority/Business Advice

• Ensure that special emphasis is given to the surveillance of goods and services originating within the Wiltshire area.
• Provide advice and assistance to all Wiltshire-based businesses.

Licensing

• Administer registration and licensing for the storage and sale of fireworks, explosives and poisons.
• License nurses agencies operating within Wiltshire.
• Licensing and enforcement of the storage and sale of petroleum spirit.

Fair Trading

• Enforce legislation relating to car clocking, package holidays/timeshare, consumer credit/loan sharks, product counterfeiting and misdescriptions.

Consumer Safety

• Investigate all complaints about the safety of consumer goods including toys, electrical goods, upholstered furniture, fireworks and gas appliances.
• Carry out surveys and sampling programmes to check that goods on sale are safe.
• Enforce the legislation governing under-age sales of tobacco, fireworks, solvents, videos, National Lottery products etc.
• Examine and investigate all complaints relating to sales of unroadworthy motor vehicles.

Providing Consumer Advice

• Act as the "Eyes and Ears" of enforcement.
• Provide free independent and professional advice and information to consumers and trade and industry about goods and services.
• Handle and deal with over 9,000 complaints/enquiries per annum from consumers/traders within Wiltshire.
