Children's Clothing and Hood Cords

The Children's Clothing (Hood Cords) Regulations 1976

• Apply to children's outerwear (such as raincoats, overcoats and anoraks) where the chest measurement does not exceed 44cm when the garment is fastened and laid flat.
• Makes it an offence to supply such outerwear if the garment has a hood that is designed to be secured by means of a cord drawn through the material.

Whilst the Regulations do not apply to hooded jumpers, tops and tee shirts etc (which are clearly not outer garments) you may commit an offence under the General Product Safety Regulationsif you supply such an item with a hood that is secured by a drawn cord.
