Resale of
Tickets
The Price Indication
(Resale of Tickets) Regulations 1994 affect you if:
- you re-sell tickets for 'entertainments' -
particularly tickets for plays, shows, concerts and sporting events, and
- you are not the promoter of the event or his
agent.
Ticket agencies aren't the only business
affected by the regulations. Coach companies offering trips to plays, concerts,
shows, or sporting events need to be aware of them too.
What do the
regulations require?
- If you give a price indication for a ticket,
you must give the full details that appear on the ticket and especially:
- the face value of the ticket.
- the location of the seat, including any
features which may adversely affect a purchaser's use or enjoyment of it - e.g.
restricted view, limited access.
The duty to give details of adverse
features extends to all information known to the reseller, even if it isn't
printed on the ticket.
- This information must be given before any
contact is concluded, and must be given in writing (except for telephone sales,
where it must be given audibly). Where the seller and purchaser deal face to
face, it is enough to show the ticket so the consumer can read it.
