Help Us To Stop Underage Sales
Volunteers aged between 14 and 16 are required to help Trading Standards Officers enforce legislation relating to the under age sales of age restricted products such as cigarettes, alcohol, fireworks, DVDs, and computer games.
Test Purchase exercises are the most effective way Trading Standards can check to ensure traders are not selling goods illegally to under age children.
Under age volunteers, working with Trading Standards Officers, visit retailer's premises and attempt to buy age restricted goods. If a sale is made to the volunteer, Trading Standards Officers will deal with the trader accordingly once the volunteer is safely away from the premises. Rigorous Home Office / LACORS guidelines are followed to ensure the safety and well being of the volunteers at all times.
Potential volunteers must be representative of their age (i.e. they should not look older than they actually are) and willing to participate with the permission of their parent(s) or guardian(s).
If you, or someone you know, would like to help Trading Standards during occasional school holidays, weekends, or evenings, please contact us for further details. You can telephone (0151) 691 8033, email us or write to us at:
